excited about solving interesting problems. If you can’t get excited about the power of a concept, it’s hard to get a student excited about the concept. Today Cindy Rodgers was excited about solving a USAMO problem while working with her math team students. I bet her students appreciate that.
Today I made the mistake of telling the [Grissom] students that today’s class wasn’t particularly important before we got started. I’m not sure what I was thinking. It’s not the most interesting material we’ll see all semester, but it’s not all that bad. I guess I just wanted them to know that next week will be more interesting. Still, it wasn’t a bad class — though I certainly taught better during the second of the two periods I teach.
