Math Explorers
The MIST Academy Math Explorers program is aimed at gifted elementary school students in grades 3-5 who enjoy math, logic, games, and puzzles.
All Math Explorers classes are taught by former Vestavia Hills Elementary West gifted program head Emily Brasher.
Ms. Brasher loves these young bright minds and has two decades of experience working with high ability students.
In
the Math Explorers program, students develop skills in enjoyable
ways that they might not otherwise develop until long after they are
already useful.
The curriculum is designed to help students develop the fundamentals
of algebra, counting techniques, geometry, number theory, pattern
hunting, probability, statistics, and topology in an enjoyable way.
What distinguishes our Math Explorers program from other programs is the problem solving focus and depth of understanding of new concepts.
The MIST Academy Math Explorers course is listed for grades 3 through 5 (divided into three classes), but MIST Academy actually places students in classes by ability, not age or grade. Problems and lessons in this class will include some from the Math Olympiads (MOEMS) program.
