The MIST Academy program is divided into four seasons. There are 10 weeks of class during each the Fall, Winter, and Spring, then a more intense 2 week summer program.
All Birmingham classes are currently held at the Vestavia Learning Center at 1360 Montgomery Highway. However, we are not affiliated with the Vestavia Learning Center, so please do not call their staff to inquire about classes or other inquiries into MIST Academy. Thank you.

2008 Spring Class Schedule

- Math Explorers -- This 10 week class is an exciting introduction to problem solving for gifted and mature fourth and fifth graders. Class will run from 7:00 to 8:45 PM Saturday evenings. - Introductory Problem Solving A -- This 10 week class is aimed at gifted sixth graders (and highly exceptional fifth graders) who want to explore basic principles of algebra and number theory (the study of integers). - Introductory Problem Solving B -- This 10 week class is aimed at gifted seventh graders (and highly exceptional sixth graders) ready to explore principles of algebraic problem solving and some elementary geometry. This class is ideal for students doing well at Pre-Algebra math tournaments who want to keep improving, and also any student wanting to score higher at Algebra I math team events. Class will run from 4:30 to 6:30 PM Saturday afternoons. The first day of class will be March 1, 2008. A complete schedule can be found here. - Introductory Problem Solving C -- This 10 week class is aimed at gifted eighth graders (and highly
exceptional seventh graders) who want to study the foundations of geometry in a rigorous class environment. This class is ideal for students who wish to score higher at Geometry math team events, as well as state/national MATHCOUNTS and the AMC 10. Class will run from 5:10 to 7:10 PM Sunday evenings. - Intermediate Problem Solving -- This Spring session of Intermediate Problem Solving focuses on trigonometry and complex numbers. Wednesday nights from 7 to 9 PM. Class begins on February 27. - Advanced Problem Solving -- The Spring session of Advanced Problem Solving focuses on methods of problem solving and proof writing. Several weeks will be devoted to preparation for the American Invitational Mathematics Examination (AIME). Tuesday nights from 7 to 9 PM. Class begins on February 26. The MIST Academy Summer Math Institute is a two-week half-day Summer math camp for gifted students of mathematics. Sessions will run during one of the two following time slots:
